Bahrain to send troops to support fellow kingdom Jordan
MANAMA — The tiny Gulf island nation of Bahrain says it will send troops to support regional ally Jordan.
The Bahrain Defense Force's General Command said in a statement carried by the state news agency Sunday that the move underscores "the solid brotherly ties of kinship and solidarity" between the kingdoms.
It gave no details on the timing or size of the deployment. Bahraini military officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa visited Jordan last week.
Bahrain is home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet and like Jordan is part of the coalition attacking the Islamic State group. Its Gulf neighbor, the United Arab Emirates, earlier this month deployed a squadron of F-16 fighter planes to Jordan.
