UNICEF to provide Guinea materials to fight Ebola

The Philippine Star

CONAKRY (Xinhua) - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will continue to support Guinea in its fight against Ebola outbreak by providing necessary materials, the agency's African regional director Manuel Fontaine said on Friday.

Fontaine was speaking in Conakry after meeting with Guinea's President Alpha Conde to discuss the ongoing war against Ebola.

"UNICEF will play a role in communication and mobilization of the population, helping to avert panic and negative information that creates complicated situations. All this will be done to help Guinea," he said.

The UNICEF regional director used the occasion to thank Conde for the efforts he had done in the fight against the disease.

By the end of August, UNICEF had offered Guinea 430,000 soaps, 230,000 chlorine vials, over 20,000 posters, 500 hand washing points, 100 motorcycles and other communication materials to be used in the Ebola-hit regions.
