Advance voting in at least 16 constituencies in Thai capital canceled

The Philippine Star

BANGKOK (Xinhua) - Advance voting in at least 16 constituencies in Thai capital Bangkok have been canceled due to disruption by anti-government protesters, the Nation newspaper reported Sunday.

Since before dawn, protesters have blocked polling stations in many districts of Bangkok and also in southern provinces as they do not want people to vote. Protesters have barred election officials from entering polling stations in some districts in Bangkok.

Voting in southern provinces has also been blocked.

It is reported that advance votings in the north, northeast and central Thailand went smoothly.

The advance voting is held for the scheduled Feb. 2 election. However, the fate of the election is expected to be decided after the meeting of the EC and acting premier Yingluck Shinawatra later on Tuesday to discuss over the postponement.
