Insurgents kill 10 at Afghan construction camp
KABUL, Afghanistan — A senior official says insurgents have attacked a construction camp in western Afghanistan, killing nine workers and a policeman.
Deputy Public Works Minister Ahmad Shah Wahid says the pre-dawn Saturday attack targeted a road-building project in Herat province's Karukh district.
Like most development projects in Afghanistan it had foreign funding — in this case German, according to Wahid. Such projects are frequently targeted by insurgents.
Violence has increased in recent months as insurgents fight to regain territory and foreign forces withdraw.
