First OFW and Family Summit launched

- GoNegosyo -

Go Negosyo, in partnership with The Villar Foundation, launched a joint project aimed at helping overseas Filipino workers and their families achieve a better and a more successful life.

With the theme “Kabuhayan Para Sa Kinabukasan”, the 1st OFW and Family Summit 2011 is a one-day event featuring various lecturers offering topics on developing the entrepreneurial mindset, negosyo basics, and skills training tailored specifically to the needs of OFWs and their families. Among the speakers who will share their experiences are former OFWs who are now successful entrepreneurs; such as  Go Negosyo advocate Prudencio Garcia of Mekeni, Myrna Padilla, owner of a BPO company, and Randell Tiongson, a training firm owner. Topics on how to start a business will be addressed by Dean Pax Lapid, formerly of Entrepreneurs School of Asia, the country’s franchise guru Armando “Butz” Bartolome, and motivational speaker Michael Angelo Lobrin.

In her statement, Mrs. Cynthia A. Villar, Managing Director of The Villar Foundation, said that with their experience in helping the OFWs, sending them home was not enough. By giving them the chance to learn, they can invest their hard-earned money to start their own business. In time, this will give them the opportunity to earn while being with their families at the same time.

Go Negosyo’s founding trustee Joey Concepcion shares the same vision of empowering OFWs through entrepreneurship. He believes that there are many opportunities here in the Philippines that are waiting to be explored. Despite the many events that Go Negosyo has been conducting in the past, he expressed his excitement over the project that is aimed directly at helping our OFWs, who has embodied the true entrepreneurial mindset “Sipag at Tiyaga” by working outside of the country for the benefit of their loved ones.

The 1st OFW and Family Summit 2011 will be on November 24 at the World Trade Center. Aside from the lectures, the summit will feature various exhibitors and business opportunities. The Villar Foundation will give away a house and lot from Camella Homes to one lucky OFW. Participants should bring valid documentation as proof that they are an OFW in order to join the raffle.
