A lucky date for clubbers

BEAT GENERATION - Moumen Daker -

Apparently, not only the Chinese got lucky last August 8, 2008. The whole of A-Venue Events Hall in Makati seemed to have been swathed in good luck last 08/08/08 because everyone in attendance that night was able to see the next big thing in trance: the extraordinary Super8 and Tab.

On 08/08/08, Bigfish and global club brand Godskitchen worked jointly to bring an outstanding act to these shores. Fans of trance who flocked to the Godskitchen bash last year to watch tech-trance guru John Askew spin were not disappointed by Super 8 and Tab, the exciting new act that provided enthralling music.

After Bigfish resident DJ Johnboy Lee wowed the crowd with his own take on trance, Finnish guys Miika Eloranta and Janne Mansnerus, also known as prodigious trance team Super8 and DJ Tab, took the stage. Although the pair has yet to reach trance superstardom in this part of the world, Manila’s clubbers know good music when they hear it because they cheered for the duo as soon as they spun their opening track. No wonder these dudes were personally handpicked by no less than trance lords Above and Beyond for their label Anjunabeats — these guys can excite fans of dance music not only in their homeland, but also in metropolitan club scenes all over the world.

Super8 and Tab threw themselves into their set, working with a refreshing dynamic and spewing forth a set profuse with stirring melodies and edgy effects. When Miika and Janne launched into their brilliant new track “Elektra,” the enthusiastic crowd lapped up the entire performance, expressing their appreciation by clapping to the beat.

Super8 and Tab said that they were beguiled by Manila’s urban charm and the hospitality of its people as soon as they arrived. In fact, they are already thinking of coming back soon. Judging by the overwhelming reception at the party, they just might grant the Manila party crowd another awesome performance on their next visit.

The event was a blast, thanks to those who believe in the Bigfish vision, especially The Philippine STAR, Nokia Music the leader in mobile and music devices, San MigLight beer and Bacardi made to mix, Myx.

In between events, music-loving fans can tune in to Bigfish Radio every Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Magic 89.9 in Metro Manila and on Killer Bee stations nationwide to satiate their dance music fix.

Bigfish continues to keep clubbers on their toes by lining up the next electronic music icon to take Manila by storm: Chicane. The popular act will be providing the party tunes at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on Sept. 27, Saturday. Get in on the action by contacting 632-7762 or 634-8238 for advanced tickets and reservations or going to www.bigfishmanila.com for more information.

Chicane frontman Nick Bracegirdle and the rest of the live band will make it a   night to remember. Bet you didn’t know Chicane performed as a live band, did you?
