Wanna know a delicious beauty secret?

RAVIN’ FACTS - RAVIN’ FACTS By Jennifer Ong -
I’m told a beauty secret over lunch, one that is unbelievably delicious.
For a while, we hush about it inside the Suriya Spa at Glorietta as a lavish spread is set before us. This is going to be a degustation of sorts. Here, I help myself to a rich mélange of food, glorious skin food!

Skin Food, a product of Skin Food Co., Ltd. of Korea, mixes food with beauty. From a slice of Korean life via its famous telenovelas, the Land of the Morning Sun now brings us a taste of its beauty products via Skin Food, which makes generous use of the foods that we love: honey, citrus, apple, avocado, milk, brown sugar, oats, and so much more. Their beneficial properties have been harnessed to produce a delectable banquet for the skin.

For the aperitif, I’m served some salt, lime and beer. These are waiting in my shower. First, I try the Skin Food Lime Salt Body Wash. Rubbing these salt crystals all over the body is said to cleanse your skin better than any soap or commercial cleansers. For one thing, it cleans and tightens pores, which allows the skin to breathe. For another, it’s a natural exfoliant that removes dead skin cells. And while salt is best known for its detoxifying magic, these crystals are also believed to stimulate blood circulation.

Truth is, salt is good for the skin. But Skin Food just had to make things even better. It all starts with its salt of choice: one taken from the mineral-rich lakes of Argentina, where the environment is kept pollution-free. Meanwhile, the zesty addition of lime can make any bathing experience all the more delightful and invigorating.

Bursting with vitamin C, lime is said to prevent skin aging, keeping your skin smooth and silky. It is also believed to reduce cellulite. And just like salt, lime is also a natural disinfectant, thereby helping bring out your skin’s natural glow.

Now, would you care for some hop beer? Hop is actually what gives beer its bitterness. Skin Food’s Hop Beer Hair Wash is a concoction of rosemary, keratin, and beer ingredients. This hair wash is said to prevent hair loss and treat damaged hair. And on an intoxicating note, a study conducted by Kirin Brewery and Shiseido Cosmetics back in 2004 reveals that hop extract contains certain properties that can stop one’s hair from turning gray. Now, that’s beer-y good news indeed for those who like to keep their hair looking youthful.

After my refreshing shower, I have coffee – a coffee scrub, that is. Skin Food’s Coffee Body Scrub blends coffee beans with sea salt, glycerine, and olive oil to make an aromatic cream. It is rubbed all over the body and rinsed off later on.

Coffee is another natural exfoliant, preventing acne and skin blemishes. There have also been reports that coffee can serve as an effective sunscreen, shielding one’s skin from UVA and UVB rays.

Here’s more hot news to perk up coffee lovers. A coffee scrub is also said to rid the body of unwanted fat and cellulite while keeping it youthful-looking. Perhaps owing to its antioxidant properties, it has also been reported that coffee can fight off skin cancer.

From a caffeine scrub, I go on to indulge myself with a Mediterranean tradition – a rich lathering of olive oil. Skin Food’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil keeps the skin moist, smooth, and supple. Some medical reports have also claimed that olive oil can protect one from skin cancer by retarding tumor growth.

After this, I just have to have some avocados, and this time, I’m going to stuff my face with ’em! Holy guacamole!

For Skin Food, the best avocado facial must be done with four of its specialties: Avocado Rich Toner, Avocado Rich Emulsion, Avocado Rich Essence I, and Avocado Rich Essence II. Together, these products make sure your face gets the beauty benefits of this fruit.

Aside from being a natural moisturizer, avocado is also said to be an antioxidant. What’s more, the fruit is known for treating a number of skin disorders, including rashes. As for avocado oil, a study conducted by a company called The Grove in New Zealand shows that avocado oil penetrates skin relatively deepest, making it highly recommended for trans-dermal treatments. It has also been noted that avocado oil is renowned for its healing, anti-bacterial, and anti-wrinkle properties.

Satisfied with my facial, I move on to my next course featuring watermelons. You may love them fresh or blended into a smoothie. But for me, I love it as a mask! Skin Food’s Watermelon Masks are incredibly soothing. They come in two forms: Watermelon Wash-Off Mask and Watermelon Mask Sheet. Filled with vitamins A, B and C, watermelon is said to effectively remove skin blemishes. It also helps exfoliate the skin. Skin Food has enriched the watermelon experience by adding aloe and lavender extracts into its masks.

By this time, I must admit, I feel incredibly relieved and satisfied. But I just don’t have the heart to say no to dessert. And so, without guilt, I treat myself – or should I say, my weary feet – to some peppermint.

Peppermint’s high menthol content is what gives it its cooling property. It is precisely this that allows peppermint to relieve tired muscles and soothe body pain. And I can assure you, Skin Food’s Peppermint Foot Cream is no exception.

Now that I’ve been pampered from head to toe, there’s just one more thing left to do – get a makeover. Skin Food also has a line of cosmetics featuring lime, honey, green tea, and ginseng, among others. I pick out Skin Food’s Lime Secret Base. It is a light oil-free makeup base that keeps the face looking fresh and glowing. For my eyes, I choose the Sweet Almond Eyeliner and Volume King Mascara. Both use a whole lot of almond oil, which is said to soften the skin and enrich it with vitamins D and E. Volume King Mascara is also made with the combination of sweet honey extracts, thickening and lengthening eye lashes while moisturizing them.

By the way, Skin Food also carries a skincare line for men that makes use of ginger (for normal to dry skin) and seaweed (for oily to complex skin). Who says only women can indulge in skin food?

As a final touch, I coat my lips lightly with Skin Food’s Honey Glossy Rouge. Honey has been known to help retain moisture in the skin.

Hmmm. Coffee, tea or a coffee scrub?
