MANILA, Philippines- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Wednesday the repatriation of five Filipinos from troubled Egypt.
The group is the first batch of Filipinos repatriated to Manila since the Philippine government raised on August 19 a Level 4 or mandatory evacuation of migrant Filipino workers in the north African country.
DFA Secretary Albert Del Rosario went to Egypt this week and noted the deterioration of peace and order in the country due to political tensions between supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi and the state's security forces.
Hundreds of people were already killed in the clashes.
DFA Spokesperson Raul Hernandez earlier said the Filipinos were set to arrive at 4:20 p.m. today.
