Ramirez: The Filipino freediving phenom

MANILA, Philippines — In the vibrant waters off Mabini, Batangas, where the ocean depth mirrors the sky’s limitless expanse, a young Filipino freediver, Jayson Edward Ramirez, has a legacy in the making.

Against the challenges of limited training time and the harsh disruptions of Typhoon Kristine, he reached an astonishing depth of 85 meters. With this incredible dive, he claimed his seventh national record.

Beginning his underwater journey in January 2021 with Freedive Tribe PH, he was immediately drawn to the silence and serenity of the depths, finding a challenge unlike any other. Just three years later, he’s not only a certified instructor under the esteemed Molchanovs Program but also one of the most in-demand instructors in Batangas.

He has inspired a new wave of Filipinos to explore the ocean’s depths.

But this 85-meter milestone is just the beginning. Ambitiously eyeing the 100-meter mark, he has his sights set on even greater depths as he represents the Philippines at the AIDA and CMAS World Championships, either next year or within the next two.
