MIAMI - Organizers trying to sign people up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act say they're launching their most extensive effort yet in Florida.
Hundreds of volunteers for Get Covered America are going door-to-door, making phone calls and taking part in nearly one hundred community events over the weekend to encourage people to sign up for so-called "Obamacare." They'll also host events at churches and synagogues as part of "Health Care in the Pulpit."
The group's Florida director Nicholas Duran said residents have been eager to learn about options.
However, counselors across the state have had difficulty actually enrolling consumers because of the troubled healthcare.gov website run by federal health officials. Many have been unable to even see how much health plans cost because of the website.
