MANILA, Philippines (2nd update, 06:04 p.m.) — State weather bureau PAGASA maintained a red rainfall warning over Bataan and parts of Metro Manila, Zambales, Pampanga and Bulacan at 5 p.m. Monday, August 17 as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continued to bring heavy rain.

The warning came after 201.7 millimeters of rain fell over Quezon City in just five hours, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, citing data from PAGASA's Science Garden station.

The rainfall was recorded from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with 138 mm falling in just two hours from noon to 2 p.m. The MMDA said the intense downpour caused water levels to rise rapidly and flooded several roads across Metro Manila.
