MANILA, Philippines — The People's Liberation Army Navy of China released a new recruitment video last week.
The four-minute, 16-second video opens with the header "Our Dream" followed by a scene of Chinese graduating from university and engaging in sports.
"We were born in the 1990s... By then, China had already risen... with bright dreams, we want to shine like the new century... we want to become very strong," the accompanying text said.
The next part of the video is entitled "Call of Duty" where scenes of Chinese navigation over the seas are shown.
"Seventy-one percent of the globe we depend on is blue water... wherever there is blue water, we will be there to secure navigation... China's oceanic and overseas interests are expanding rapidly... our land is vast but we will not yield an inch of our territory to foreigners," the text said.
The video then shows that China claims jurisdiction over 3 million square kilometers of ocean which includes as many as 6,700 islands.
"The struggle over our sea rights is not over. We will not yield even the tiniest speck of our resources," the text said.
Meanwhile, the Philippines maintained its commitment to the peaceful resolution of the South China Sea dispute.
"The Philippines has won international respect and recognition for resorting to arbitration, and we reiterate our invitation to China to join in this process," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement.
The DFA said the Philippines will continue to conform with the rule of law particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and through the 2002 Association of South East Asian Nations China Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
