American obstetrician Laura Stachel, dubbed among the CNN Heroes this year, flew in to the Philippines after learning of the damage in maternity facilities caused by deadly typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) in November.
In this video, Stachel talks to Philstar.com about her experience helping distressed communities in the Visayas where hundreds of mothers are set to bear children amid poor conditions and without electricity.
Stachel partnered with businessman Jaime "Jim" Ayala of Stiftung Solarenergie to bring solar energy to health care centers in remote areas without light.
