MANILA, Philippines -- There should be no problem for Letran if ever star cager Kevin Alas gets recruited to be part of the national basketball team.
Fr. Vic Calvo, Letran's athletic moderator, said they're willing to let Alas join Gilas 2.0.
"It should be that way (that schools lend their top players to the national team)," Calvo said during the NCAA turnover ceremony this afternoon at Letran's main campus in Intramuros, Manila.
Letran will be taking over as host of Season 88 after last season's host Perpetual Help.
Calvo said they first need to see the training schedule for Gilas 2.0, adding that a meeting with the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas has already been scheduled to discuss the matter.
In a recent interview with sports broadcaster Snow Badua, SBP president Manny Pangilinan included the versatile Alas -- the NCAA's No. 2 scorer last season with 17.5 points per game -- in his wish list of players for Gilas 2.0.
For his part, Alas, who currently plays for the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems in the PBA D-League, has openly expressed his willingness to suit up for the national team.
Letran is no stranger to lending its players to the national team, having allowed former Knights Rey Guevarra and RJ Jazul to train with Smart Gilas before.
"We just need to see the SBP's calendar so we could align it with ours," Calvo said. (Video by Cris Cayanan)
