MANILA, Philippines – The devotion to the Infant Jesus dates back five centuries ago when Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived in Cebu bearing the image of Sto. Nino as a gift to Queen Juana and King Humabon. Considered as one of the most well-loved image of Christ, the Sto. Niño is feated with a colorful celebration every third Sunday of January throughout the country. In Tondo, the ivory image of the Sto. Nino came from Acapulco, Mexico, and was brought by the Augustinian priests in 1570. It is believed to be miraculous.
