CEBU, Philippines - Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez has notified Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo that Dumaguete City was chosen to host the Visayan Leg of this year’s BatangPinoy Games on account of the city’s quality sports venues and billeting quarters located within a 5-kilometer radius.
City Information Officer Dems Rey Demecillo said the Visayas Leg of the BatangPinoy will be held from September 23 through 29, and will be participated in by at least 3,500 young athletes.
Demecillo said the games to be played in the event are archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, karatedo, pencaksilat, sepaktakraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball.
BatangPinoy is a national competition program for Filipino youths, aged 15 years old and below. It is designed to widen the base of selection of potential artists for future national and international sports competitions, primarily the quadrennial Youth Olympic Games. (FREEMAN)
