Robredo visits school projects in Negros

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo lauded local partners in making her projects for schools in Negros Oriental a reality.

Robredo visited the Kalanggaman Elementary School in sitio Kalanggaman at Barangay Mayabon of Zamboanguita town in Negros Oriental on Friday morning where her Angat Buhay program would be tested. The existing school is made of light materials.

In a dialogue with local residents and parents in that sub-village, they asked for her help for a school building, road development and water supply, among others.

Robredo said that due to her office’s limited resources, she tapped some individuals to help her accomplish her project in that sub-village.

The vice president, in her visit, was accompanied by her local partners, Greg Uymatiao, vice president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.-Dumaguete; Nene Wuthrich, executive director of the LBC Foundation; Raymond Serios, special projects manager of Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation; and Lilian Bardenas, Negros Area head of International Care Ministries.

Uymatiao, for his part, said his group would help build two classrooms to be accomplished within this year in the barangay, while the other partners would also do their share.

Robredo learned that almost 1,000 children from Kalanggaman are not in school because they need to travel many kilometers to attend classes. She then thanked the Alanano family for the donation of one hectare lot for the said school building.

Zamboanguita Mayor Glenson Alanano led local officials—Vice Mayor Felipe Elmido and municipal council members—Department of Education officials, teachers, students, parents and barangay officials in welcoming Robredo.
