DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — The Department of Education in Negros Island Region turned over P1.6 million in financial assistance to three schools affected by typhoon Nina in Camarines Sur early this year.
Claudio Sun of DepEd Dumaguete City said the recipients schools included Nato National High School (P500,000), Sagnay Central School (P500,000) and Ocampo National High School (P591,200).
DepEd raised the total amount from various fundraising activities and projects initiated by the Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs), as well as from the 16 schools divisions of DepEd NIR.
Officials have dubbed the fundraiser as “Gugma Ko, Halad sa mga Gibagyo.”
The donations will be utilized solely for the repair of classrooms in the mentioned schools, said Sun.
Present during the simple turnover rites were DepEd NIR Director Gilbert Sadsad, DepEd NIR Assistant Regional Director Salustiano Jimenez, Education Support Services Division Chief Adolf Aguilar, schools division superintendents, assistant schools division superintendents, curriculum and governance chiefs, PTA officers, and other regional and division officials.
The school principals of the three schools, as well as the schools division superintendent of Camarines Sur, received the assistance. (FREEMAN)
