CEBU, Philippines - In celebration of Women’s month, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) had launched the “Wow ang Biyahe” project to provide safety tips to passengers in collaboration with the Women in Maritime Philippines, Central and Eastern Visayas regional chapters.
PPA port manager Sarah Mijares the project’s safety tips include provision of life vests in ships and planes, where every passenger should know where these are kept and on their usage to help persons with disabilities, senior citizens, women and children.
Every passenger should sign also the passenger manifest and be informed of the authorized passenger capacity, Mijares said, adding that vessels’ aisles must be unobstructed with emergency exits visible to the passengers.
These are among the few reminders for passengers, where all vessels are mandated to provide under maritime regulations, said Mijares.
Starting April this year, all vessels are directed to post Wow ang Biyahe posters for passengers to read and be aware of their respective rights and roles in ensuring the safety of their trips. (FREEMAN)
