MABINAY, NEGROS ORIENTAL, Philippines — An 18-year-old boy was killed when a sugarcane-laden truck, he was riding with five others, fell off a ravine on the left side of the road Tuesday evening at Barangay Canggohob in Mabinay town.
Police Officer 3 Gil Quiliope, desk investigator of the Mabinay Police, identified the victim as Arman Vicada, who died on the spot after being buried by the huge pile of newly harvested sugarcane sticks.
Initial Investigation showed that at around 11 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, the cargo truck—driven by Victor Jimenes, 51, of Barangay Sab-ahan in Bais City—was maneuvering a curve when its tires rammed a rock on the edge of the road, causing it to fell leftward into the ravine.
At around 3:30 a.m. the next day, Jimenez voluntarily surrendered to the police. He is now in custody of the Mabinay Police Station. (FREEMAN)
