Senior Superintendent Carlos Lacuesta, deputy director of NORPPO, showed these figures during last week’s Peace and Order Council meeting held at the Convention Center in Dumaguete City.
Lacuesta said the surrenderers consisted of 12,451 “drug users” and 931 “drug pushers.”
The five cities and municipalities with the highest accrued number of “drug pushers and users” who voluntarily surrendered to NORPPO are Sibulan with 1,132; Guihulngan City (1,048); Tanjay City (1,029); Sta. Catalina (855); and Dumaguete City (854).
Lacuesta further said the NORPPO requested the surrenderers to sign a commitment to stay away from illegal drugs use and selling. By now, the police put the surrenderers into recreation activities and clean-up drive, among others. (FREEMAN)
