NFA assures Negros Oriental of enough stocks of rice
CEBU, Philippines – The National Food Authority-Negros Oriental has assured Negrenses of enough buffer stocks of rice even with the impending long dry spell, as predicted by weather forecasters.
Newly-installed NFA provincial manager Hilaria Ganzon said that, as of Monday, there were 37,581 bags of NFA rice, as buffer stocks, in its warehouses in Dumaguete City and in Guihulngan City, with added importation of 22,000 Vietnam rice every month.
Ganzon assumed as NFA-Negros Oriental manager last January 4, swapping places with Carlos Cortes who took over her post as NFA-Siquijor provincial manager.
Ganzon vowed to continue the programs initiated by her predecessor, including the close monitoring and enforcement of regulations among the 287 NFA-accredited retail outlets in Negros Oriental, with Bert Amor as enforcement officer.
In Dumaguete, each retail outlet has an allocation of 205 bags per week while the Bigasan ng Bayan outlets has 40 bags.
Ganzon also vowed to pursue the organization of the food guardians in the province to help the NFA in its monitoring of unscrupulous businessmen. (FREEMAN)
