CEBU, Philippines – The Police Regional Office-6 conducted yesterday a simultaneous sealing of the policemen’s service firearms muzzle to prevent indiscriminate and illegal firing during the holidays.
Chief Superintendent Bernardo Diaz, PRO-6 director, who led the guns’ muzzle taping, said policemen should take the lead for a “gun-free” celebration of the Yuletide Season.
“Merry making is not all about firing guns. There are a lot of ways to celebrate the Holiday Season,” Diaz said, as he warned policemen, found guilty of indiscriminately firing their guns, would be slapped with criminal and administrative charges. “I would just be too happy to see them dismissed,” he said.
Diaz however said there is an exemption, such as in defense of oneself under threat or while in the performance of duties that a police officer could be allowed to use his issued firearms. (FREEMAN)
