DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – The city government unit had received its 34th award from the Department of Labor and Employment-Region 7, this time for its various programs and services in facilitating employment opportunities.
The latest DOLE-7 certificate of recognition cited Dumaguete City, headed by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, through its Public Employment Service Office for the following: PESO Institutionalization, National Best PESO Nominee 2014, Job Start Recipient, Conduct of Job Fairs, Active participation of PESO activities, Timely Submission of Monthly SPRS and SRS Reports and facilitation of DOLE programs and services.
Sagarbarria, while happy for the achievement, said it was not done just by his own merits but also by department heads, city and barangay officials and employees, and the people of the city.
PESO-Dumaguete manager Maria Socorro Mira, meanwhile, explained that one of the latest endeavors of the city is the JobStart Philippines program which is only implemented in select areas in the country, including Dumaguete.
JobStart is a partnership between the DOLE, Asian Development Bank and the Canadian International Development Agency to provide avenues for youth to be employed by giving them access to skills training as required by potential employers, said Mira.
Mira added the city has been doing its best to avoid a jobs mismatch as it undertakes various activities, such as jobs fairs and skills training to equip jobseekers with the right employment for them. PESO-Dumaguete has also been updating its labor market information, and assist other PESOs and schools in the conduct of local jobs fairs.
PESO-Dumaguete has pioneered in the implementation of the Skill Registration System with updated data base of jobseekers, whose information, such as personal profile and skills, are made available to the labor market. (FREEMAN)
