PB member’s son dies after his own motorcycle collided w/ pickup truck
CEBU, Philippines - A road collision ended the life of a 16-year-old motocross racing champion and the son of a Provincial Board member, after his driven motorcycle collided head on with a pickup truck at 12:10 a.m. yesterday along the national highway at Barangay Boloc-boloc in Sibulan town, Negros Oriental.
Police identified the young victim as Enzo Nikolai Teves, a resident of Barangay Talay in Dumaguete City, who was the son of PB Member Arnie Teves, president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Negros Oriental.
After the accident, Enzo was rushed to the Silliman University Medical Center Foundation where attending physician, Dr. Idall Yurong, declared the victim dead at 3:58 a.m. yesterday.
Initial police investigations disclosed that a silver-metallic Ford Ranger pickup truck (plate no. FHU 267) was about to cross the highway going south to Dumaguete from the gas station. Upon reaching the middle part of the road, the customized 125cc motorcycle of Teves, suddenly came out speeding from an opposite direction going north, and crashed into the left side of the four-wheeled vehicle.
The registered owner of the Ford Ranger pickup was Aynie Mandajoyan Dizon, while it was driven at the time of the accident by her husband Alejo Dizon Jr, resident of Villa Pastora Subdivision at Barangay Batinguel in Dumaguete.
Due to the impact of the collision, the motorcycle was torn into two pieces and was a total wreck, while Teves sustained serious injuries on his body.
Witnesses’ accounts said that, minutes before the incident, a tricycle was traversing the highway from Dumaguete going south to Sibulan at a moderate speed ahead of Teves. Minutes later, the motorcycle overtook it but collided head-on with the Ford Ranger.
Senior Inspector Nelson Lamoco, chief of the Sibulan Police, could not give other details of the incident including questions whether there was a drag race at the time of the incident. He said investigations were still being conducted at the time.
