Senatorial bet Tolentino pushes for tourism development

PANGLAO, BOHOL, Philippines  — Lawyer Francis Tolentino, a candidate for senator, yesterday visited this town to grace a tourism workshop held at a resort where he was welcomed by Mayor Leonila Montero and municipal and barangay officials.

Tolentino, former chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority and three-term mayor of Tagaytay City, said the tourism town of Panglao must have these three things: peace and order, cleanliness, and united officials and people.

He said Tagaytay, famous for Taal Volcano, had only three restaurants when he first became its mayor, but when he ended his term of office, the city had more than 300.

Peace and order, and a clean environment always play a big role for tourism, said Tolentino, adding that officials and their constituents must be united to make Panglao a top tourist destination in the Visayas.

Tolentino said he filed his certificate of candidacy, not under the Liberal Party but with “PL” or party-less. He once served as president of the League of Cities of the Philippines and then executive vice president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines from 2001 to 2014.  (FREEMAN)
