CEBU, Philippines – The chief of the Bacolod City Police Station 2, and 31 others, 24 of them public school teachers, were injured after the car he was driving hit the approaching passenger bus along Hacienda Oso at Barangay Luna in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental last Saturday.
Injured were Senior Inspector Lanel Mae Ree Lanado, chief of the Bacolod Police Station 2, and his companions—Ron Paul Distrito, 18; John Paul Sison, 21; Arcy De Asis, 27; John Lapore, 23; and Kevin Baranao, 23—were all from Bacolod City.
Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, acting city police chief, said the 28-year-old Lanado, was driving a black Mitsubishi Adventure car when he tried to overtake two other vehicles at a downhill curve, but instead hit a passenger bus on the opposite lane.
Also hurt from the accident were bus driver Edgar Carisma, 44, and his passengers—24 teachers taking up masters degree course at the Philippine Normal University in Bacolod City.
They were: Joy Caumba of E.B. Magalona town; and Res Ann Galeta, 36; Fely Lobaton, 44; Inocensia Deles, 39; Debbie Basco, 28; Emily Patero, 45; John Medel, 29; Alexis Abella, 27; Dafodil De Oca, 42; Annie Rose Prayco, 38; Mary Rose Napay, 32; Cherry Ann Diaz, 36; Cherel Villegas, 28; Jane Duran; Nono Toreblanca; Rena Villa; Charylin Lien; Melinda Pepito; May Clavecillas; Charlote Segaya; Cheryl Flores; Salvacion Monje; Daisy Casiple; Razel Garcia; and Monalisa Junsay — all of Silay City.
All victims were rushed to a hospital while the two vehicles were impounded by the authorities.
