TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – More than 7,000 people, members of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas and the Department of Interior and Local Government in Eastern Visayas, planted more than 10,000 tree seedlings during the Oplan Broadcastreeing project in various places from August 15 to 21.

Leonardo Sibbaluca, director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-8, said the tree-planting activity was conducted in Tolosa town in Leyte and Catbalogan City in Samar, last August 15; Naval town in Biliran on August 18; Ormoc City in Leyte on August 20; and Maasin City in Southern Leyte on August 21.

Sibbaluca said planted seedlings were mostly beach-forest species and the participants were from the KBP, together with members of government agencies, LGUs, academe, private and business sectors, non-government organizations, and stakeholders.

The areas planted were part of the DENR’s P1-billion Mangrove and Beach Forest Development Project, under the National Greening Program aimed at protecting disaster-risk areas in the region, said Sibbaluca.

The KBP and the DILG, thru a memorandum of agreement, implemented the Oplan Broadcastreeing project, in coordination with the DENR, said Sibbaluca.
