87th IB to recall Samar governments military escort

Miriam Garcia Desacada - The Freeman

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – The 87th Infantry Battalion command will be recalling soon the military escort of  Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan delos Santos, before the 2016 election period.

Colonel George Domingo, newly installed commander of the 87th IB, during the weekly media forum here, said his office is now processing pertinent documents necessary for the pull out of the soldier detailed to the governor, adding that it is the command’s obligation to recall every security detail in an appropriate time.

"I am doing it with fair treatment. Actually Governor Delos Santos is the only governor in three Samar provinces who has a military escort for security reasons, but I have to pull out my personnel before the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2016 polls," Domingo told The FREEMAN.

Earlier, the Philippine National Police national headquarters have announced the possible removal of security details from 87 government officials under its list.

Comelec-8 Assistant Regional Director Felicisimo Embalsado, for his part, said electoral candidates may apply for security details, provided they will undergo a process by paying the P5,000 processing fee at the Comelec national office and will pass a threat validation procedure to be conducted by the PNP.

"They have to wait for at least 30 days for the entire processing whether the Comelec will approve or disapprove their application," Embalsado added.
