ORMOC CITY, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development has downloaded another P 1.452-billion for emergency shelter assistance fund to its regional office in Eastern Visayas, this time for victims of typhoons Glenda and Ruby that battered Samar Island last year.
Restituto Macuto, DSWD-8 assistant regional director, said P52-million of the fund was for Glenda victims, and P1.4-billion for Ruby victims. There were five recipient towns of the Glenda funds, but no specific local government units were identified yet for Ruby.
The fresh fund was on top of the P 7.1-billion already released to Yolanda-affected cities and towns in the region, said Macuto, who also disclosed that LGUs were being briefed on how to determine the amount of money to be given to a particular LGU recipient.
Macuto further said an LGU that received its share of the ESA fund shall be accountable of its utilization, and the DSWD will be monitoring its implementation. (FREEMAN)
