Two women, blind man flee from their recruiter

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two women and a blind man had taken refuge in Dumaguete City after fleeing themselves from their employer at Jaro district in Iloilo City.

The two women, aged 17 and 30 years old, and the 33-year-old blind masseur, whose names were being withheld for security reason, told the Dumaguete City Social Welfare Office they were recruited from their place in Pagadian City by Lourdes and Bobbi to work at a massage parlor in Iloilo City.

The “victims” were promised with an insurance coverage plus P100 daily allowance while under training. But since July 10 up to July 30, they alleged the promised allowances were not given them for their daily meals.

They claimed they were also threatened by the owner, prompting them to escape and travel to Dumaguete where they are now in custody of a parish church in the city.

In the meantime, the Dumaguete City SWO already conducted a case study of the three for possible assistance in their desire to go back to Pagadian. —Juancho R. Gallarde (FREEMAN)
