TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — Unidentified riding-in-tandem men gunned down a 42-year-old former policeman, while riding on his motorcycle on his way home in this city, Wednesday afternoon.
The victim was identified as former Police Officer 2 Jaime Perdigon, alias Jimmy, a resident of Purok 1 at Barangay Manga in this city. He died on the spot, the police said.
Initial investigation showed that Perdigon sustained four fatal wounds in his body from a 9mm gun, believed to be used by the killers. Police recovered four empty shells from the crime scene.
Superintendent Jorge Vale, Tagbilaran Police chief, said Perdigon was a suspect of an stabbing incident that wounded incumbent Barangay Councilman Iping Tabanera.
Vale said the victim was known to have many enemies among his neighbors, due to personal grudges, but the police did not rule out illegal drugs as among the motives in his killing.
Perdigon was recently dismissed from police service, but the police did not say what caused his dismissal.
Perdigon was the latest victim of shooting incidents in recent months, most of which were related to illegal drugs, the police added. (FREEMAN)
