Cebuano job seeker duped in FB, robbed by “recruiter”

Marchel P. Espina - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  — A 24-year-old man, who was promised to work in this city through Facebook, was robbed by his supposed recruiter at the Bacolod Public Plaza, Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Mark Gil Mangubat of Barangay Irrio in Lapu-Lapu City Cebu. He was recruited allegedly by a certain Joey Amacio, who promised him a job, as posted on FB.

When Mangubat arrived in Bacolod, he met with his “recruiter” who in turn told him to surrender his bag to be taken to the perpetrator’s house.

Mangubat, without hesitation, gave to Amacio his bag containing P2,000 cash, various identification cards and personal belongings only to realize later on that he was actually robbed.

Amacio immediately fled the scene and could no longer be contacted by the victim, the police said. (FREEMAN)
