TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – Bohol Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio II shared the concerns of the public about the high prices of commodities despite the hefty reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
Damalerio said the provincial government will ask the Department of Trade and Industry-7 regional director Aster Caberte and provincial director Nanette Arbon to give an update on the monitoring of the prices of basic commodities.
Damalerio said the DTI should check if the business sector has been compliant of the policies governing the prices of commodities. There should be some changes now, considering that the fuel prices have been made the indicator of the prices of commodities, he said.
When the prices of petroleum products soared high, the business sector made it its reason to increase the prices of basic commodities. But, now that the prices of petroleum products have significantly reduced, the prices of basic commodities still remain high, Damalerio added.
