ORMOC CITY, Philippines — A total of 100 egg machine kits were distributed to cities and towns in Leyte province by Pilmico Foods Corporation, through its Mahalin Pagkaing Atin campaign for a quick and sustainable livelihood for Yolanda victims in Eastern Visayas.
This campaign of Pilmico, a food subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Ventures, started last August to encourage farmers to engage in poultry production or home-based food enterprises.
The egg machine kits include a pen and ready-to-lay hens, with recipients no longer have to wait longer to harvest the produce either for consumption or sales.
“Through these efforts, we hope to transform a new breed of entrepreneurs and inspire hope among the people for them to be able to build back better,” said Norie Bermudez, Pilmico’s assistant vice president for Visayas and Mindanao sales.
Bermudez said the company chose the egg machine because it is a perfect tool for livelihood because it is easy to manage with fast return of investment.
Pilmico also prepared a mobile business school with experts to train the beneficiaries and other interested persons on managing the egg machines. “We want to ensure that all recipients of the egg machine are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to run their new business efficiently ... and see them succeed,” added Bermudez.
