TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines- — Marking the first anniversary of super typhoon Yolanda, Malacañang recently declared November 8, 2014, as special non-working day in the province of Leyte, according to Interaksyon.com.
Proclamation 889, signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., by authority of President Benigno Aquino III, states that “on 8 November 2013, the Province of Leyte was struck by super typhoon Yolanda, causing loss of lives, destruction of properties, infrastructure, agriculture, and industries of the province.”
The proclamation further states that “Saturday, November 8 marks the first year anniversary of the Yolanda tragedy which the entire Province of Leyte wishes to commemorate as a day of prayer and thanksgiving.”
Meanwhile, the towns of Palo and Tanauan kicked off their Yolanda commemoration on October 31, with the tradition of nine-day novena in honor of their departed loved ones. (FREEMAN)
