CEBU, Philippines – Two agriculture students of the West Visayas State University-Lambunao Campus drowned Friday afternoon while swimming at a waterfalls in Lambunao town of Iloilo.
The victims-identified as 18-year-old Mica Angelica Cornelia, a third year student from Maasin town, and 19-year-old Renalyn Libuna, a fourth year student from Lambunao-died after being carried away by strong water current, reports said.
Rescuers found Cornelia an hour, or around 6 p.m., after the incident, and was rushed to the Dr. Ricardo Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Lambunao but did not survive. Libuna's body was recovered around 6 a.m. the next day or about 12 hours after.
The two went swimming at Montillano Falls in Pasig village with seven of their friends when heavy rains struck at around 5 p.m. but the victims failed to swim to safety.
