19 brgys“highly affected”
ORMOC CITY, Philippines —The City Anti-Drug Advisory Council has identified 19 of the 110 barangays in the city as highly affected by illegal drugs.
In a meeting the other day, Mayor Edward Codilla after receiving the CADAC information directed the police and other line agencies to do more “to minimize if not eliminate the illegal drugs problem” in the city.
Codilla’s directive emphasized that operations be focused more in schools. “These are places where drug personalities tend to exploit the vulnerability of our young citizens,” he said, adding that he had also ordered for random drug tests of City Hall employees.
As of yesterday, results of the tests were yet to be released. In the past, six City Hall employees were tested positive for illegal drugs use and their employment papers are now being reviewed.
The recent surprise drug testing was the third since Codilla carried out a directive to clear the city government of illegal drug users. —Edgar Allan Vilbar (FREEMAN)
