N. Samar journalist harassed — NUJP
CEBU, Philippines - A broadcaster in Northern Samar has claimed getting threatening text messages while he was anchoring his radio program last September 12, according to the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines in a GMA-7 News report.
The NUJP identified the broadcaster as Eladio Perfecto, head of the NUJP’s local chapter in Northern Samar, who anchors Boses San Masa, a nightly radio program on 102.3 FM in Catarman town, the provincial capital.
Perfecto was a target of a failed assassination attempt on December 26, 2006, and recently a person, who did not identify himself, “repeatedly sent threatening text messages” to him while he was discussing alleged corruption issues involving the administration of a former governor.
The texter repeatedly asked Perfecto “to stop his commentary or else...,” said the broadcaster.
Perfecto said he had been commenting on the alleged anomalous transactions involving the former governor and a supposed P105-million obligation of the provincial government to PhilHealth.
Meanwhile, Perfecto said he also noticed an unidentified vehicle tailing him on his way home, forcing him to sleep somewhere else, added the NUJP. —From the wires
