Habagat affects 7,790 people

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  — A total of 7,790 individuals or 2,454 families were affected by habagat (southwest monsoon) that triggered flooding in 18 villages in Negros Occidental.

A report from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office showed that 14 villages were affected on Wednesday in Valladolid town and two each in Pulupandan town and Bago City.

In Valladolid, 7,497 persons or 2,390 families were evacuated in Barangays Ayungon, Mabini, Palaka, Guintorilan, Alijis, Pacol, Tabao Proper, Central Tabao, Poblacion, Bagumbayan, SaguaBanua, Doldol, Batuan and Paloma.

In Pulupandan, 260 individuals or 53 families were affected in Barangays Pag-ayon and Ubay while 33 persons or 11 families were evacuated in Barangays Balingasag and Poblacion of Bago City.

PSWD officer Liane Garcia said the reported evacuees had already returned to their homes Wednesday evening after the heavy rains and flood subsided, adding that evacuation centers were already cleared.  (FREEMAN)
