BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A 28-year-old man died after a faith healer extracted his tooth in Manapla town, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the victim as Jerry Aguirre, of barangay Punta Mesa in Manapla, who died while sleeping last August 19 due to infection and blood poisoning.
The death certificate issued by the Municipal Health Office indicated that Aguirre died of septic embolism or infection and blood poisoning.
The victim’s sister, Jona Dela Cruz, said her brother asked money from her to have his tooth extracted. However, she did not know that he will avail himself of the services of a faith healer, identified as Diosdado Mahilum, also of the same barangay, last August 15.
De la Cruz said the faith healer allegedly used pig pliers to extract the five teeth of the victim. She added that the family will file charges against Mahilum, who is not a dentist.
Senior Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla Police chief, said his office is still waiting for the filing of charges against the suspect.
Gregorio said the police could not yet arrest Mahilum until the court will issue a warrant of arrest. He added that the suspect may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide. (FREEMAN)
