CEBU, Philippines - An online tutorial center was raided Wednesday morning by the National Bureau of Investigation-Region 6 following reports that it was allegedly an underground operation for a business process outsourcing or a call center company.
The NBI-6, armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Reynaldo Daway of the Regional Trial Court-branch 90 of Quezon City, conducted the raid on Comtech Universal Philippines located at Rosary Building in Iznart Street of the City Proper in Iloilo City.
Avatar Technologies Incorporated, a BPO company which maintains offices in Iloilo City, has accused Comtech of alleged unauthorized use of its software in the latter's operation, in violation of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
Oscar Razzok, Avatar-Iloilo chief executive officer, stood as witness against Comtech, while the subjects of the warrant were Comtech officers Ferdinand Gonzales, Joseph Agapao and Mark Jabian, who were however not around during the raid.
The NBI-6 instead took into custody 32 employees who were allegedly caught doing online works, and confiscated at least 30 computer sets. (FREEMAN)
