ILOILO CITY, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III, during his SONA on Monday, announced the approval of the P17 billion budget for the recovery and rehabilitation of the devastated areas in Iloilo province caused by Yolanda eight months ago.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. confirmed the approval of the plan and the budget for rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure and agriculture in the province, as well and for resettlement and livelihood of affected residents.
The plan will be injected to 12 Yolanda-affected towns: Ajuy, Anilao, Balasan, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Carles, Concepcion, Dumangas, Estancia and San Dionisio.
Defensor said he was assured by Malacañang that the budget will be released the soonest possible time for immediate implementation.
Meanwhile, Aquino cited Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog for being young and dynamic public official who, among other public officials, has done his best in governance.
Mabilog was very thankful that his efforts and sacrifices were noted by the president. "It would only validate the recognition of Iloilo City as No. 1 in government efficiency and in administrative leadership in Western Visayas," he said.
Aquino and Senate President Franklin Drilon were in Iloilo City last June 27 for the inauguration of several million-worth of infrastructure projects such as the esplanade beautification project, road widening projects, Iloilo River development and housing project, among others. —Montesa Griño Caoyonan
