CEBU, Philippines - A 51-year-old barangay kagawad was gunned down by a still unidentified assailant inside their home at San Enrique, Iloilo.
Leonida Palma, a resident of Sitio Kabit, Brgy. Paga, succumbed to head injuries.
SPO3 Randy Lambungan, officer-in-charge of San Enrique police, said they had to pick parts of victim's brain after they arrived at the crime scene.
Her husband, 48-year old Randy, survived the incident with a graze wound on the left portion of the neck.
Police did not recover any slugs or empty shells on the crime scene.
According to Randy, he was feeding the dogs when he heard a gun shot. After which, he lost consciousness.
But bystanders in the area claimed to have heard two gun fires.
Lambungan said they have no witnesses who saw the incident.
The couple's only companion, their nine-year old son, was asleep when the incident happened.
The boy claimed he was awakened when he heard the gunshot and when what he though "juice from a sliced tomato" hit his face.
The boy was sleeping next to his mother when the incident happened.
With no physical evidence to boost police investigation, several information insinuated the incident could be a "crime of passion."
Even Lambungan admitted that Randy has been placed under investigation for some inconsistencies.
He already underwent paraffin examination.
It was gathered that Randy just arrived from Samar province after staying there for several years.
He reportedly asked his wife that he will return but the victim decided against it.
Those who knew the couple claimed that it could have sparked a disagreement between them until the "unexpected" happened.
