Marchel P. Espina - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines  â€” All government officials and employees have been reminded to submit their respective statements of assets, liabilities and net worth on or before the April 30 deadline.

Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Pelagio Apostol, through acting director Philip Camiguing, issued this reminder, adding that any public official or employee who failed to submit his/her SALN is punishable with suspension of one to six months for the first offense, and dismissal from service for the second offense, with corresponding criminal liability.

Further, failure to disclose or misdeclaration of any asset, liability, business interest, financial connection, and relative in the government in his/her SALN is also punishable by law under the Republic Act No. 6713 or the Code of Conduct of Public Officials and Employees.

Under the RA 6713, all state workers, whether regular or under temporary status, are required to file a SALN on or before April 30 of every year declaring their net worth as of December 31 of the preceding calendar year.  (FREEMAN)
