ORMOC CITY, Philippines — Secretary Mar Roxas of the DILG is set to visit Leyte province today (April 10) up to Friday to turnover to the mayors of various towns P800-million worth of checks, representing part of the national government's reconstruction assistance for LGU infrastructures badly damaged by Yolanda.
DILG-8 Regional Director Pedro Noval Jr. said Roxas's first stop is Palo town where he will meet with Mayor Remedios Petilla and the mayors of neighboring towns of Tanauan, Tolosa and Dulag.
Noval added that the funds would be for the repair of the Capitol building, municipal or city halls, public markets and civic centers of the various LGU's.
In Palo, the secretary is set to meet also the representatives of various business chambers in Eastern Visayas, according to Engineer Robert Castañares, governor of the EV Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EVCCI).
Castañares said the chambers will ask for Roxas's help in accessing funds to rehabilitate their businesses, especially from the Asian Development Bank.
By afternoon today, Roxas will be in Baybay City to meet with Mayor Carmen Cari and the mayors of other towns in the 5th district of Leyte. He will be in Ormoc City tomorrow morning. — (FREEMAN)
