Marchel P. Espina - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY — A 70-year-old Spanish man was killed by the brother of his live-in partner at their home at Purok Paraiso Proper in Brgy. Taloc of Bago City, Sunday morning.

Superintendent Arnel Arpon, chief of Bago City Police Station, identified the victim as Santiago Rivero, of the same barangay, who died on the spot.

The Spaniard was beaten to death with a steel pipe by the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Wilson Landero, who is the brother of Rivero's live-in partner, Velve Landero, 18.

According to Arpon, Wilson got angry upon learning that his sister suffered physical abuse from Rivero, and this pushed him to kill the Spaniard.

The police are how in hot pursuit against the suspect, who fled immediately from the crime scene.

Arpon said the police had already contacted the Spanish Embassy about the incident. He added that Rivero had a wife in Iloilo City, and that the Spaniard and his live-in partner had two children, 15-month-old and three-month old. — (FREEMAN)
