BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The 35-year-old chairman of Barangay Kumaliskis of Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental was gunned down Sunday evening, during a village fiesta.
Police identified the victim as Edwin Peruelo, who sustained a gunshot wound on his back when he was killed by a still unidentified suspect at around 11:30 p.m. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said the crowd had witnessed the incident, but they were unable to identify the gunman who covered himself with a malong (tube skirt) and immediately fled the crime scene. Investigations are still going on.
