ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division marked the Philippine Army's 117th founding anniversary by giving up a day of their subsistence allowance for typhoon Yolanda projects.

Major Ray Tiongson, 3rd ID spokesperson, said they were able to pool P378,300 to be used for repair of school facilities and installation of water system facilities in areas hit by typhoon Yolanda.

Among the schools facilities to be repaired are the Candelaria National High School in Barangay Roxas 8 Extension and Tapaz National High School, both in Tapaz town of Capiz, and Tuburan Elementary School in Brgy. Tuburan of Maayon, Capiz.

Working under the spirit of  bayanihan, soldiers and stakeholders worked together during the simultaneous repair works, which was done last Saturday.

On the other hand, the water system facilities will also be installed in Yolanda-hit areas of Brgy. Gen. Luna in Toboso town; Brgy. Winaswasan in Calatrava and Brgy. Malasibog in Escalante City, all in Negros Occidental province.

These undertakings were part of the various activities held for the Phil. Army anniversary celebration, which adopted the theme "Serving the People, Securing the Land."

In collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), a bloodletting program and medical and dental civic-action programs were also held at the battalion headquarters under the 3rd ID.
