BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Commission on Higher Education-Region 6 Assistant Director Rex Casiple said 18 private and public colleges and universities in Western Visayas had sought for tuition fee hike for the school year 2014-2015.
Casiple said the deadline for the submission of application will be on April 1, and he added that more institutions are now expected to apply for the tuition fee increase, which should not be more than 10 percent of the existing rates.
The CHED official said however that not all applications will be approved since it will be thoroughly evaluated by the commission, "to ensure that they have fully complied with the requirements set by CHED."
Casiple explained that schools seeking for a tuition fee hike must also increase the salaries of the teachers and must improve its learning facilities.
Another requirement is that the school management must also conduct a dialog with the students, faculty, alumni and parents on the proposed tuition fee increase, he said adding that the applicant-school must have no deficiencies in its offered curricula. (FREEMAN)
